Request for Artist Proposals: 2024 BIG HEART

Project Description:

Payette Land Trust is looking for an artist to bedazzle/embellish/paint/beautify/decorate the third annual Big Heart – a large unpainted heart sculpture – in the theme of “Conserving the Heart of Idaho.” The heart will be displayed at various locations around McCall and the surrounding area for nine months to raise awareness about the artist’s vision of conserving Idaho’s precious open lands.

Project Details:

The “Big Heart” is 38 inches tall, 40 inches wide and 18 inches deep and made of fiberglass. Artists are welcome to submit their concept of “Conserving the Heart of Idaho” by February 29, 2024. The selected concept and artist will be announced by March 20, 2024, with the Big Heart to be completed by May 20, 2024. The Heart will be on display throughout the McCall area for a 9-month exhibition period starting June 2024 and ending February 2025. Submission of concepts will be evaluated by a selection committee based upon the overall quality and merit of the submitted artworks. Submissions from all artists, as well as collaborations or teams of artists, are encouraged.

The selected artist will be awarded a commission amount of $1000 for their work. The $1,000 is for the artwork and required materials the artist will use. The artist(s) are invited to attend the heart unveiling on June 22, 2024 and the SweetHEART Party & Auction in February 2025 where the Big Heart will be auctioned. The artist will be credited in all media coverage.
